Grade 10 students win $5,000 for local charity

Grade 10 students Henry Feltham, Lawrie Feng, Max Fleurent, Marc Gélinas and Akwirente Leborgne won $5,000 for their chosen charity, The Depot, in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) competition finals held at Selwyn House on May 25.

The students delivered their presentations in front of a panel of judges, which included Grade 11 student Ishan Soni, O'Shae Ho-Sang ‘17, Matthew Homa ‘21, Aria Khiabani ‘18, who also serves as a Board member of the Old Boys Association, and Caroline Deitcher, a Board member and current Selwyn House parent.

Fellow Grade 10 students and parents were in attendance.

The three other teams in the finals represented the following local charities: Centre d’appui aux communautés immigrantes (CACI), LOVE, and Pour 3 Points.

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an award-winning international education program that provides high school students with a hands-on experience at assessing and advocating for local social needs, and making grants to community-based charitable organizations meeting those needs.
