  • 2010-2011 Athletic Engagement

    BASKETBALL
    The Juvenile Basketball team won their division at the Selwyn House Invitational Basketball Tournament and made the GMAA semi-finals. The Elementary School Basketball team won the Selwyn House Tournament.

    GOLF
    The Selwyn House School golf team won the GMAA Championship.

    HOCKEY
    The Gryphons won the LCC Juvenile Hockey Tournament in November and were finalists in the GMAA Championship.

    RUGBY
    The Selwyn House rugby team won the GMAA Juvenile Division 1 Championships

    SOCCER
    The Selwyn House midget soccer team won the Bishops Invitational Tournament.

    TENNIS
    At the GMAA tennis tournament, the bantam team won a silver medal for their efforts; one Grade 8 student won for singles and a team of two other Grade 8 students placed second in doubles.

    WRESTLING
    The Gryphon Wrestling Team won the Tri-Meet Tournament against rivals Loyola High School and Kahnawake Survival School in February. The team also placed second in the GMAA Championships, winning three gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals. At the Selwyn House Middle School Wrestling Tournament, the school captured the gold medal over rival Kahnawake Survival School.

    GMAA SPORTSMAN AWARD 2010
    For the twelfth year in a row, Selwyn House School was recognized as a school which promotes exemplary sportsmanship (one of the top ten schools in the GMAA).

    CAHPER AWARD
    For the 16th consecutive year, Selwyn House School received the CAHPER (Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) Award for a quality physical education program. This recognition is determined by the number of minutes of physical education offered in each of the school’s three divisions and by the quality of instruction that is administered. 
  • 2011-2012 Athletic Engagement

    BADMINTON
    The Badminton team won the GMAA Juvenile bronze medal, with a Grade 11 student ranking third individually. A Doubles team of two Grade 11 students also placed sixth in the Juvenile Provincial Badminton Championships.

    BASKETBALL

    The Bantam Basketball team won the LCC Bantam Basketball Tournament.

    FOOTBALL
    The Gryphons were Senior Division semi-finalists in the Ligue Metropolitain Scolaire, andfinalists in the GMAA Bantam Championship game.

    HOCKEY
    The Gryphons were GMAA Juvenile Hockey semi-finalists, and won the following tournaments:  the LCC Juvenile Hockey Tournament, the Bishop’s University Hockey Tournament, and the Loyola High School Ed Meagher Tournament.

    RUGBY
    The Gryphons won the GMAA Juvenile Division 1 Rugby Championship and the Bantam Rugby and 7-Aside Championships.

    WRESTLING
    The Gryphon Wrestling Team won the GMAA Championships. At the Quebec Provincial Wrestling Championships, the team won the Cadet Division and placed third in the Bantam Division. One Grade 9 student also won the Canadian Cadet Wrestling Championship.

    GMAA ANNUAL AWARDS
    Ten Grade 11 students were named MVPs for their performances during the 2011-2012 season, and one student won the sportsmanship award.

    CAHPER AWARD
    For the 17th consecutive year, Selwyn House School received the CAHPER (Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) Award for a quality physical education program, which is determined by the number of minutes of physical education offered in each school and by the quality of instruction that is administered. The School also reviewed a letter from Prime Minister Stephen Harper in recognition of its achievement.
  • 2012-2013 Athletic Engagement

    FOOTBALL
    The Selwyn House Gryphon Football team won the GMAA Bantam Championships.

    HOCKEY
    The Selwyn House Elementary Hockey Gryphons won the GMAA banner.

    RUGBY
    The Gryphon Bantam Rugby team won the GMAA Championships and the GMAA 7 aside Tournament.

    SWIMMING
    The Selwyn House Swim Team won two GMAA banners: the GMAA Boys’ Midget Swim title and the Overall Boys’ Team Aggregate Championship.

    TENNIS
    The Gryphon Juvenile Tennis team won the GMAA Juvenile Tennis Championship.

    WRESTLING
    Two Grade 10 students participated in the Sparta Cup in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with one student capturing first place and the other seventh. At the Canadian Open Championships in Saskatoon, a Grade 10 student won his second consecutive Canadian Gold Medal in the Cadeté Juvenile category and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. In addition, another Grade 10 teammate placed highly in the most difficult weight class of 63 kg, and one Grade 9 student finished fourth. The Gryphon Wrestling Team also finished off the regular season undefeated, with students in Grades 9 to 11 winning their matches.

    GMAA ANNUAL AWARDS
    Nine Grade 11 students were named MVPs for their performances during the 2012-2013 season, and a tenth won the sportsmanship award. The Coach of the Senior School Gryphon Wrestling team was presented with a GMAA “Award of Merit” for coaching, and the school won an award for overall participation in the annual Halo Race.

    PHE (Physical & Health Education Canada) AWARD
    For the 18th consecutive year, Selwyn House School received the Quality (Daily) Physical Education Award for the excellence of its athletics program. The award is determined by the number of minutes of physical education offered in individual schools and by the quality of instruction that is administered. Selwyn House School was recognized as having a physical education program that is in the top 5 per cent of schools across Canada.
  • 2013-2014 Athletic Engagement

    BASKETBALL
    The Gryphons were Division 3 winners of the CAIS Senior Boys’ Invitational Tournament, and the Elementary School A team won the Montreal Elementary School Basketball Championships.

    CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
    The Selwyn House Elementary School team won the GMAA banner.

    FOOTBALL
    A Senior School student was selected to play on the Quebec U-18 Provincial team in the Canadian Championships.
    Two Selwyn House students were selected for the U-17 Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Regional Football team, and three students were selected for the U-15 team.

    WRESTLING
    The Gryphon Wrestling Team finished a strong fourth place at the GMAA Championships, with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals. One student was named as the GMAA MVP of the tournament. The team prepared for the championships with a trip to Cuba where they participated in a training camp and visited the Cuban National Team Training Center. At the 2014 Provincial Championships, four students came away with medals, including two golds. One Grade 10 student won a silver medal at the Canadian Championships and placed first at the National Team Trials. One student participated in the Sparta Cup in San Juan, Puerto Rico, finishing with a bronze medal, and three students participated in an international tournament in Israel in July, where all three won gold medals. The Gryphons had two wrestlers and one alternate on the Quebec Team at the Canada Games, and finished with one bronze medal.

  • 2014-2015 Athletic Engagement

    BASKETBALL
    The Gryphons made the playoffs in the GMAA Championships. The Juvenile Division-1 team reached the quarter-finals, the Juvenile
    Division-3 team the semi-finals, and the Bantam team also reached the semi-finals.

    SOCCER
    The Gryphons were Juvenile Division 2 finalists in the GMAA. The Selwyn House Bantam team also reached the finals in the GMAA Championships.

    CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
    The Selwyn House Elementary School team won the GMAA banner.

    FOOTBALL
    Both the Juvenile and Cadet teams were semi-finalists in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Championships.

    WRESTLING
    The Gryphon Wrestling Team finished a strong fourth place at the GMAA City Championships with four medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze. At the 2015 Provincial Championships, the team brought home one bronze and three silver medals. One student also participated in the Canadian Championships in New Brunswick.

    GMAA ANNUAL AWARDS
    Nine Grade 8 students were named MVPs for their performances during the 2014-2015 season, and a tenth won the sportsmanship award. The school also won an award for overall participation in the annual Halo Race.

  • 2015-2016 Athletic Engagement

    BASKETBALL
    The Juvenile Division-1 team made the playoffs in the GMAA Championships. The Bantam team won the West Island College Tournament and another tournament co-hosted by Selwyn House School and Lower Canada College. The Bantam team were also league finalists and played in the provincial tournament representing the GMAA region. The U-13 Basketball Team travelled to Vancouver for the CAIS U-13 Basketball Tournament, and players and their coaches won the Statham Award for the most sportsmanlike team in the tournament.

    CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
    A Grade 11 student qualified for the provincial championships. The Selwyn House Elementary School team won the GMAA banner.

    CURLING
    The Juvenile Curling team won the GMAA league championships.

    FOOTBALL
    The Juvenile team were league semi-finalists, posting an overall 8-2 record. The Cadet Team were league quarter-finalists. Both teams continue to compete in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ).

    HOCKEY
    The Juvenile team had a successful trip to the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. The Bantam team were regional finalists in the ligue de hockey interscolaire du Québec (LHIQ).

    RUGBY
    Both the Juvenile and Bantam teams were semi-finalists in their respective GMAA division leagues.

    SOCCER
    The Gryphons were Juvenile Division-2 semi-finalists in the GMAA. The Selwyn House Bantam team also reached the semi-finals in the GMAA Championships. The U-13 Soccer team placed fourth overall in the CAIS National U-13 Soccer Tournament.

    TENNIS
    In GMAA championships, the Selwyn House School team won a silver medal for their overall standing. A gold medal was awarded for singles play to a Grade 8 student. Bronze medals for doubles play were also awarded to a team of one Grade 7 and one Grade 8 student, and two Grade 9 students.

    WRESTLING
    The Gryphon Wrestling Team placed third at the GMAA Championships and won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals. At the Provincial Championships, the team placed fourth in the Cadet Division, winning two gold and two bronze medals. One wrestler participated in the National Championships in Calgary. The highlight of the year was the one-week training camp in Havana, Cuba.

    GMAA ANNUAL AWARDS
    Eight students in Grades 10 & 11 were named MVPs for their performances during the 2015-2016 season. Selwyn House School also
    received a Sportsmanship Banner for the 2015-2016 school year.
  • 2016-2017 Athletic Engagement

    Basketball
    The Juvenile Division-1 team lost in the finals of the GMAA playoffs, their first-ever appearance in the championship game. They won the LCC and Ed Meagher Loyola Tournaments, and brought home the CAIS U-18 Tournament Division-3 Championship banner. The Midget team made it to the league semi-finals, while the Bantam Division-1 team made a playoff appearance. The U-13 team played in the CAIS U-13 tournament at Hillfield Strathallen College in Hamilton, Ontario.

    Cross-Country Running
    The SHS Elementary School team won the GMAA Championship banner, their fourth consecutive title.

    Football
    The Juvenile team was an RSEQ league semi-finalist, as was the Cadet team, which attained a 6-4 overall record. In March, a senior team comprised of student-athletes ranging from Grades 9 to 11 traveled to the United Kingdom to play games against schools in England and Scotland.

    Hockey
    The Juvenile Division-1 and the Bantam team qualified for the LHIQ playoffs. The hockey program has also welcomed the addition of a new Director of Hockey Operations and Development.

    Rugby
    The Juvenile team won the Division-3 GMAA Championship, while the Midget team were league finals. The Bantams appeared in the playoffs, losing in the semi-finals.

    Soccer
    The Midget Gyphons won the Division-3 GMAA Championship. The Bantam Gold team was a league semi-finalist in the Division-2 bracket.

    Tennis
    In the GMAA tournament, the Midget boys tennis team won a bronze medal in singles as well as a gold in doubles play. As a team, the Midgets won the silver medal. The Bantam team took home a silver medal in singles.

    Wrestling
    Three Senior School students from the Gryphon Wrestling Team won gold medals at the GMAA Championships. One Grade 11 student also qualified to participate in the National Championships in Windsor, Ontario.

    GMAA Annual Awards
    Eleven student-athletes attended the the GMAA Awards night, with ten receiving recognition as team MVPs, and the eleventh student receiving the school's Most Sportmanslike Player award
  • 2017-2018 Athletics Engagement

    Basketball
    The Juvenile Division-1 team just missed the GMAA playoffs, but won the Ed Meagher Loyola Tournament for a second year in a row.  The Midget team participated in the league semi-finals. Finally, the Bantam Division-1 team won the LCC Tournament and participated in the CAIS U-13 Tournament in Toronto, winning the consolation draw banner.

    Cross-Country Running
    The SHS Elementary School team won the GMAA Championship banner, their sixth consecutive title.

    Football
    The Juvenile team was an RSEQ league semi-finalist, while the Cadet team was an RSEQ finalist losing a tightly-contested championship game in early November.

    Hockey
    All four Middle/Senior School hockey teams qualified for the the LHIQ playoffs. The Juvenile Division-1 team enjoyed one of their strongest regular seasons in many years. The Juvenile Division-3 team also had a strong run, losing in the league finals after a steady regular season campaign. The Bantam hockey team participated in the LHIQ playoffs, while the Pee-Wee program took a big step forward in finishing as the finalists in their league.

    Soccer
    The Juvenile team lost 1-0 in the GMAA league finals after going on a great late-season run to get to the championship game.

    Tennis
    In the GMAA tournament, the Juvenile boys team won a bronze medal in singles action, as well as a gold in doubles. The Bantam team brought a strong group to the tournament, winning the Bantam level with both of their singles players competing for the gold medal in the finals. The Bantams also captured silver and bronze medals in the doubles competition. The program won its annual tennis tournament, edging out its rival Loyola, at the Nun’s Island Tennis Club.

    Curling
    The Gryphon curlers finished as league semi-finalists in GMAA competition.

    Fencing
    The emerging Selwyn House fencing program hosted its first-ever invitational tournament, which saw two of its Senior School teams take home the top two spots in the tournament. A Selwyn House fencer also finished in first place at the U-13 Provincial Championships.  As a result, he earned a berth in the North American Competition at the U-13 level.

    Wrestling
    The Wrestling Gryphons placed 6th in the GMAA Championships and had two medalists, including one gold. As well, we had two bronze medals at the Provincial Championships.

    Rugby
    The Midget rugby team finished as semi-finalists in their GMAA 10’s league, while the Bantam rugby team ended up as GMAA finalists.

    GMAA Annual Awards
    Nine  student-athletes attended the the GMAA Awards night, with eight receiving recognition as team MVPs, and the ninth student receiving the school's Most Sportsmanlike Player award.
