Fall leaf project includes mindfulness, graphing

Grade 1 girls from The Study visited Selwyn House on Oct. 22 to join with our boys in a multidisciplinary project involving fall leaves.

The activities began with each school teaching the other the techniques they use in their school’s mindfulness meditation sessions.

The students were then split into mixed groups for a leaf-rubbing activity. Each student made two leaf rubbings so that each school could use them to make a friendship tree to remember the activity.

The students then decided on an attribute by which to compare their leaves. Their choices were: size, colour or shape. Each group created a graph based on that attribute. The groups presented their graphs, and the day ended outdoors with a snack and recess together in the Old Boys schoolyard.

The students achieved their goals for the day: to create connections between the two schools and to learn from one another.
