Chinese students give New Year's presentation

On January 22, Chinese students from Grade 9 at Selwyn House made a presentation to Senior School Assembly about the Chinese New Year, the most important annual celebration in China. Although there are celebrations before and after, the official dates of the Lunar New Year are from January 25 to February 4. The students explained the symbols and customs associated with the holiday, closing with a demonstration of the traditional “Happy New Year” hand greeting used by Chinese people during this holiday. At the end of the program, Kevin Hu presented his own original scroll painting of a peony, a flower that symbolizes prosperity, to Headmaster Hal Hannaford. Senior boys gave these students a standing ovation for their presentation. Students taking part were:
