Gryphons display grit in emotional semi-final

The Selwyn House Juvenile football team left it all on the field on Friday, November 5, as they lost their semi-final game by the thinnest of margins to the Collège St-Jean Vianney Dragons.

Focused and ready to play, the Gryphons displayed grit and perseverance throughout the game as it went right down to the wire, when late in the game the opponent scored to take the lead. The Dragons kept the score 20-18 until the final whistle.

The result puts an end to a near perfect regular season for the Gryphons who maintained a 5-1 record.

It was an emotional ending, especially for the graduating players.

‘‘The entire coaching staff is proud of how the boys played on Friday and during the entire season,’’ says Coach Anthony Lukca.

‘‘Legendary American basketball coach John Wooden has said: ‘Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.’ The Gryphons gave their best every day they were together,’’ he says. ‘‘I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the boys.’’

The coaching staff expresses its gratitude to the athletic therapists, led by Sophie Drisdelle, as well as to the parents and the entire Selwyn House community for their support throughout the entire season.
