Students donate proceeds from Orange Shirt Day sale
The Indigenous Student Committee presented a cheque for $1,000 to Step by Step Child and Family Center in Kahnawake this week. The proceeds come from the sale of Orange Shirt Day shirts, and will be spent to help the families who use the centre.
Jacob Condo in Grade 10, Akwirente Leborgne in Grade 10, and Dylan Montour in Grade 8, visited the centre and were given a tour. They learned about how it helps families from a trauma-informed approach.
The boys were interviewed by local media and talked about how proud they feel to be part of the Selwyn community; one that is learning about their community and traditions, and supporting them in their endeavours to bring awareness to the world.
