Grade 11 students participate in Service Day
Now in its eighth year, Service Day gives Grade 11 students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the realities and challenges faced by people from diverse backgrounds in the Montreal area.
On April 20, Grade 11 students paid a visit to 10 local charitable organizations to learn about their work and lend a helping hand.
Divided into groups, the students visited:
Bread and Beyond, whose mission is to provide a reliable supply of fresh, nutritious sandwiches to organizations serving clients in a homeless or vulnerable situation.
Centre Greene, a community organization that offers help and assistance to people in need, including children, seniors, mentally challenged young adults, and young parents.
Contactivity Centre, a non-profit community centre for active seniors in Westmount.
Nazareth Community, a centre that provides housing with support for individuals who struggle with mental health issues, homelessness, trauma and addictions.
Petites-Mains, a social insertion organization that helps immigrant women learn a trade and become financially independent.
St. Gabriel’s Parish, a church located in Pointe-Saint-Charles.
Santropol Roulant, a community food hub that brings people together through various programs, activities and services.
Step by Step Child and Family Center, an organization that offers innovative, culturally based, inclusive educational experiences to young children in Kahnawake.
Tyndale St. George’s Community Centre, which empowers the people living in Little Burgundy.
Welcome Hall Mission, an organization that helps the most disadvantaged find better opportunities in order to break the cycle of poverty.
