YPI Students Win $5000 for Local Charity

Grade 10 students Philip Baltuch, Tony Liu, and William Birks won $5,000 for their chosen charity, Treiser Maison Shalom, in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) competition finals held at Selwyn House on May 24.

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an award-winning international education program that provides high school students with hands-on experience assessing, researching, and advocating for local social needs.

The students delivered their presentations in front of a panel of judges, which included Grade 11 student Gabriel de Carvalho, Ian Mahutte ’19, Stanford Li ’19, Anna Clare Sung, and Caroline Deitcher, a Board member and current Selwyn House parent.

Fellow Grade 10 students, parents, and charity representatives were in attendance.

The three other teams in the finals represented the following local charities: Centre d’appui aux communautés immigrantes (CACI), Ami Quebec, and Welcome Hall Mission.
