Torrey Mitchell 2002, the only Selwyn House Old Boy to have played in the National Hockey League, was in the news recently in Vermont, where he is opening a hockey training school with Pete Lenes, another pro player who was Torrey’s teammate from 2005-2007, when the two played for the University of Vermont Catamounts.
The two “Cats” are partners in Elev802, a hockey training facility in Essex Junction, Vermont, where they have set up a 36x56-foot rink as well as an off-ice training area. Working with only four students at a time, Torrey and Lenes help younger players develop their technical skills.
WCAX-TV in Burlington reports that the two men knew they wanted to go into business together when they retired back in April. By choosing to open a hockey school, Torrey follows in the footsteps of his father—retired Selwyn House Athletic Director Steve Mitchell—and his brother, Josh, who graduated from Selwyn House in 2000.
