Seniors use games to learn calculus

On May 4, the students in Advanced Placement Calculus wrote the standardized AP exam, put forth by the College Board. Following this, mathematics lessons are driven by student interest. The first topic following the exam was on probability and expected value. The week included a trip to Mr. Elbling's Virtual Casino, created by the students in 11-5. The week ended with students playing a variety of board games, the results of which are driven largely by strategy but include an element of chance. The students all participated enthusiastically, and many learned how to play new games. A particularly heartwarming by-product of this experience was hearing the students reminisce about playing many of these same games with their grandparents.
