Parent Association

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

The Parent Association helps the school by providing support to classroom and school activities. Parents can help in many areas of the school, and volunteers are much appreciated. Some of the areas where volunteers are always required are:

ADMISSIONS OFFICE

Volunteers are needed to welcome potential new families at various events organized by the Admissions Office. Admission volunteers also welcome new families at the New Parents’ Reception and provide a “buddy system” for them for the upcoming year.

THE ARGYLE SHOP

Volunteers are needed throughout the year to work weekly two-hour shifts. Additional volunteers also provide assistance with the physical inventory, receiving stock, restocking shelves and providing additional sales support during busier seasons.

CLASS PARENTS

These volunteers represent the parents of students in a particular class and provide a line of communication with the class teachers. Teachers have a variety of support requests and needs. Class parents may be asked to assist with the following activities: classroom decorating, facilitating class-related outings, carpool arrangements and parent get-togethers, assisting with school photos and vaccinations and involvement in special events.

DECORATING AND SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION

Volunteers are needed to decorate the front entrance, main hallways and the Rossy Agora to mark the various seasons and/or holidays. Several display cases also need to be decorated with archival materials and posters before major school events.

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers assist by shelving books, repairing books before professional re-binding, maintaining and creating displays and bulletin boards, entering data for cataloguing, and correcting database errors.
A plant caretaker is also needed to water plants once a week and to provide general maintenance such as re-potting.

LUNCH SERVICE

Volunteers are needed to help serve lunch to Kindergarten and Grade 1 boys.

PARENT EDUCATION

Parent volunteers are needed to brainstorm and initiate activities for parent information events, for example: parenting seminars, parenting lectures and appearances by guest speakers on a variety of topics related to raising children. This committee will work together to provide stimulating and dynamic ways for parents to explore the things that interest, concern or intrigue them.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Volunteers are needed to coordinate and offer support for a wide array of school activities and special events. Some of these events include: the annual Welcome Back BBQ, Gryphon (second-hand uniform) Sales, Elementary School bake sales, Elementary School play, annual CRC Robotics Competition, Career Day, and the end-of-the-year school clean-up.
