Middle School Students Explore the Power of Photojournalism

A group of Middle School students, accompanied by Ms. Corbie, visited the annual Expo World Press Photo Exhibition at Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. The 2026 exhibition featured 147 award-winning photographs by 42 photographers, selected from more than 57,000 submissions representing 141 countries. The visit encouraged students to look beyond their own experiences, develop a deeper understanding of global issues, and recognize the power of photography to inform, challenge, and inspire.

 

Many of the photographs explored challenging and thought-provoking topics, including global conflicts and humanitarian issues. Although some of the subject matter was difficult to engage with, students appreciated the opportunity to learn about events unfolding around the world and reflect on the important stories these images communicate.
