Nicholas Johnson ’15 Makes Chess Olympiad History with Team Bahamas

Former Selwyn House student Nicholas Johnson ’15 made history at this year’s Chess Olympiad, delivering an outstanding performance for Team Bahamas.

Nicholas scored 7/10 points, the highest score ever recorded by a Bahamian on Board 1, and was the second-highest scorer on the 10-member team. During the tournament, he earned his Candidate Master (CM) title before going on to achieve the FIDE Master (FM) title by Round 11, becoming only the second Bahamian ever to earn the distinction.

With six victories and two draws across the tournament, Nicholas played a key role in Team Bahamas’ historic silver-medal finish, the country’s first-ever Olympiad medal. Congratulations, Nicholas, on an incredible achievement!
