Grade 5 Explores the Art of Illustration with Stacey Chomiak

On April 30, the Grade 5 students received a visit from Stacey Chomiak, a Canadian author-illustrator and former animator. The students had previously read her book "Rainbow Boy and the Pride Parade" and made links with their Culture and Citizenship in Quebec class surrounding themes of gender and self-acceptance. Ms. Chomiak had the students captivated with her talk on how animation differs from book illustration. She ended the talk with a draw-along during which students learned how to draw a golden retriever.

The visit took place during Canadian Children's Book Week, which celebrates Canadian authors and illustrators and is organized by the Canadian Children's Book Centre. - Ms. Soukhodolskaia, Librarian
