OBITUARY: Peter Vodstrcil '56

Peter George Vodstrcil '56 passed away on January 18, 2021 in his 80th year, peacefully at home in Montreal, the last of a family who fled Eastern Europe to make a new home in Canada in the darkest days of WWII. He was predeceased by his father, Tomo, in 1984; his brother, Andrew, in 2003; and his mother, Herta, in 2014. Peter enjoyed a happy childhood in The Linton Apartments and lived independently for most of his adult life, although he suffered from bouts of mental illness. He will be remembered by a small coterie of caregivers and friends who admired his spirit and tenacity. In view of the pandemic, a private graveside service will be held in the spring. Born June 11, 1941, Peter attended Selwyn House School from 1947-1956. During those years, Peter was a member of Cubs, Scouts (Patrol Leader of Bulldog Patrol 1954-56), Choir, Skiing, Swimming, Boxing, Soccer, Drama and Debating. Peter was a prefect and member of Wanstall House. Peter was awarded the following during the June 1956 Sports and Academic Prizegiving: Mackenzie Cup (Scout award to the Bulldog Patrol), Form V - 1st, Dramatics Prize, Distinction in Oral French, Distinction in Literature and the Lieutenant-Governor’s Silver Medal for Academic Distinction in Senior School. Peter served as Secretary of the Old Boys’ Board from 1968 to 1972.
