A Holocaust survivor's harrowing tale

As part of their programming for the Our House program, Selwyn House Middle and Senior School students had the honour of hearing from 95-year-old Holocaust survivor Ephroim (Johnny) Jablon via Zoom on April 13.

"I witnessed the biggest crime—the biggest murder— in the history of mankind," Mr. Jablon told the students. "I lost my entire family, my parents, my brothers, my uncles, my cousins, 39 of them."

Mr. Jablon narrowly escaped death many times. He described in detail how the Nazis came to the Krakow ghetto to take his family. He still has the scar from a blow to his head he received while trying to defend his mother. That he survived death in the concentration camps is a miracle.

"It was heartbreaking," says teacher Erin Egan. "He says his revenge is passing the torch to young people so that they never forget."
