The Debating and Public Speaking Programme at Selwyn House School begins formally in Middle School where all students, other than those participating in Jazz Band, rotate through four Arts Options, of which debating and public speaking is one. If they choose to continue in Senior School, they are welcome to join the Debating and Public Speaking clubs, which meet on Monday afternoons. The purpose of offering these classes is twofold: to help boys develop the presentation and critical thinking skills that will be invaluable throughout their lifetimes and to prepare boys for the tournament circuit, which is active both at the provincial and national level. Selwyn House has a long and proud tradition of participating in these events and has produced a formidable array of competitors who have achieved success at the provincial, national, and even international level. We welcome all boys who are interested in developing their skills, however, and we are delighted to work with both the novice and the seasoned professional alike. Selwyn House students have recently won top prizes in major international debating and public-speaking contests.
