The future’s so bright he’s gotta wear shades. Jonathan Blanshay ’84 and his five-year-old company, Revision Eyewear, have landed contracts with the U.S. army worth $10 million US, says a February 28 article in the Montreal Gazette. The Montreal-based company manufactures ballistic protective eyewear for the military, the police and other clients.
Since the company was founded five years ago, business has grown 1,700 per cent, with a 300-per cent increase in 2006 alone. With contracts to manufacture over a quarter-million sets of specialized goggles for the U.S. army by the end of May, Jonathan says he expects 2007 to be twice that.
In addition to the U.S., Blanshay’s clients include not only the Canadian military, but also the forces of Britain, Singapore and Belgium. Manufacturing for U.S. clients is handled at the company’s factory in Vermont; international clients are served from a factory in Taiwan.
“We have received tremendous feedback from troops serving in the Middle East, and that is what inspires us to keep working ever harder,” Jonathan says.
