Shave to Save 2009 went well beyond its $16,000 target figure, raising a total of $19,000 for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
Five Senior School students volunteered to have their heads shaved for the cause. They were: Matthew Goldbloom, Vincent Iacono, Fernand Le Fèvre and Jake Mullan.
Teachers David Grier, Jonathan Bracewell, Adam Hodgins and Annabel Soutar joined the shavees, marking only the second time in five years that a woman has taken part in the Selwyn House Shave to Save.
When it was announced that she would top up the donations to make it an even $19,000, Head Prefect Daniel Knight joined the group and had his head shaved, also.
The event was organized by Charles Boisvert and Jeremy Micheletti, who was one of the shavees in last year’s event.
Pierre Emond won tickets to a Habs game for raising the most in pledges.
Emcee for the cutting ceremony was Kat Spencer, morning deejay for Virgin Radio, sponsor of the Montreal Shave to Save campaign. Stylists from La Coupe wielded the clippers as the shaves put their heads on the chopping block in front of a cheering throng of students, teachers and parents.
