Help four young alums make a medical advancement in stroke rehab

Justin Tan 2004, recently completed a degree in biological engineering at MIT followed by a master’s degree in Public Health and Public Policy at Cambridge University. He is now in his first year of medical school at McGill University and aims to become a practicing physician.

Along with McGill professor, Dr. Philippe Archambault, and three of his Selwyn House classmates: Shawn Errunza 2004 (Mechanical Engineer), Alexis Youssef 2004 (Software Engineer) and Sun Jun Bae 2005 (Electrical Engineer), their goal is to develop a comprehensive upper-extremity rehabilitation unit aimed at lower-income communities. The program utilizes virtual reality technology and is targeted towards patients suffering from motor, cognitive, and sensory disorders. This system is unique in that it is low-cost, easy to set-up, and is optimized for impoverished regions.

They have applied to Grand Challenges Canada for a grant to develop and market this program. Part of the application process is attaining the most number of votes for a short video and they need to gather the most votes in order to be eligible for the grant. They are currently in fourth place out of 86 applications, so your vote can make a difference to them and perhaps to millions of other people that their program may be able to help in the future.

There is a two-minute video explaining what they are doing and how the program works. Watch this short video and then on the right side of the video under the heading Average Rating/Cote moyenne you will see a "thumbs up" icon. Simply click on this icon to add your vote. Votes must be in by the end of April.
