Four Selwyn House students were prize winners in the Quebec Sector of the Commonwealth Essay Competition for 2012.
Four Selwyn House students were prize winners in the Quebec Sector of the Commonwealth Essay Competition for 2012. In Class C (for 12- to 14-year-olds) Shayne Tessler won first prize and Adario Chirgwin-Dasgupta (both Gr. 8) won second.
Both students wrote about change. Shayne’s essay was on losing one’s sense of childhood; Adario wrote about the inevitability of change, whether positive or negative.
In Class D, (for students under 12 years of age) Bernard (Lida) Liu was highly commended and William Robinson (both Gr. 5) commended.
Bernard’s essay was about a boy who makes and sells toys; William’s was about workers in an ice cream factory who thwart a bomb threat by covering the bomb with ice cream.
Cash prizes and certificates for these awards will be presented at 6 p.m. on May 6 at St. Mathias Church, 131 Cote St-Antoine.
