Learning from the Rwanda Genocide Through Survivor Testimony
As part of the unit on Genocide within their Contemporary World course, our Grade 11 students are engaging in two experiences to enrich their learning this year. On April 10th, they had the privilege to hear Odile Sanabaso share her story as a Rwandan Genocide survivor. It was a powerful experience to hear Odile's story and to see the human side of an event the students had studied only in print. Odile's unbelievable strength and resilience in a context of unbearable atrocities helped inspire our students to be carriers of memory, as well as to become empathetic citizens and human rights ambassadors who will stand up against discrimination around them. Their journey in learning about the stages of genocide, in addition to its complexities and devastating consequences will continue with a reflective tour of the Montreal Holocaust Museum. - Mme Thériault, Director of Academic Innovation & Growth
