Alex Moore in Commonwealth Games

For the first time in Selwyn House history, an Old Boy will be competing in the Commonwealth Games.

Wrestler Alex Moore 2014 registered an un-scored-upon performance in the 2018 Junior/Senior Canadian Wrestling Championships at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard on Saturday, March 17 that gave him the national championship title and earned him a chance to represent Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for April 15-16 in Gold Coast, Australia.

Alex was also named 2017 Junior Wrestler of the Year at the Canadian
Championships.

Alex earned a spot on the 12-member Team Canada, while his father, Selwyn House Wrestling Coach Rob Moore, will also be at the Commonwealth Games as head coach for the Canadian men’s team. Three of the six men who qualified for Team Canada trained at Montreal YMHA Wrestling Club, where Alex and Rob Moore train.

According to Wrestling Canada, Canadian wrestlers have captured more Commonwealth Games medals than any other country, with 125 won since the Games began in 1930. Canada wrestlers were very successful at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where the team won 12 medals including seven gold, two silver and three bronze.
