Vito Guzzo receives fencing award

Selwyn House Grade 9 student Vito Guzzo recently received an award for winning two silver medals for fencing in the Quebec Winter Games in Gatineau this past March, as well as a gold medal in the Canada Cup National Tournament in the Senior Team competition this past May in Quebec City.

He was nominated among a few dozen athletes from the city of Terrebonne for the Athletic Personality Award.

Vito was also honoured for being provincial champion in the U-13 fencing category. This year, he says his goal is to be both national and provincial champion in the U-15 category. He has to compete in many international competitions to accumulate enough points to qualify for the Youth National Junior Team this spring.

He was also recognized for being on the honour roll and, at the same time, having passed his McGill Conservatory exam this summer for piano. He was also commended for his community work that he does with the Shriners, where he volunteers with sick children, as well as his devotion to volunteering with the elderly in the Geriatrics Department at the Jewish General Hospital.
