On December 12, 2020 Israel “Izzy” Tamale 2017 received his Duke of Edinburgh Gold level award in a virtual ceremony hosted by Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Izzy’s mother, Irene-Cynthia Kitimbo, presented the award at the Zoom ceremony. Izzy’s Award Leader, Selwyn House Director of Experiential Education Courtney Prieur, was also present. The Gold level award recognizes achievements in the areas of Physical Recreation, Skill Development, Volunteer Service and Adventurous Journey. There is also a Gold Project component that requires participants to challenge themselves to work with new people towards a common goal in an unfamiliar setting. “It showed me that you only get out of life as much as you put in, and that there is so much out there,” says Izzy. Congratulations!
