Space Club invites astronaut MP

In February, the Selwyn House Space Club is planning to host Canada's first-ever astronaut and the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Marc Garneau.

Head Prefect George Adamopoulos started Space Club with classmate and fellow Prefect Matteo Farias two years ago, when they were both in Grade 9. George met with Garneau last year at his office for 30 minutes privately, where he asked former astronaut questions and invited him to visit club.

The Space Club has around 20 members, with about 10 who attend every meeting.

“At our meetings, we discuss any sort of interesting news about space,” George says. “This could include missions aboard the International Space Station, rocket development, colonization of Mars, the commercial space industry, and many other topics.” At their Jan. 14 meeting, the club talked about what happens to the human body when in space for extended periods of time and about Tesla's new rocket-powered cars.
