Fefer promotes mental wellness in Senate bid

In his run for a seat on the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU), Selwyn House Old Boy Jarren Fefer 2017 intends to make mental wellness a major plank in his platform. “As senator, I would seek to expand services provided by the Student Wellness Hub by collaborating with the university as well as third-party providers,” Jarren pledges in his announcement video.

“The Arts Faculty is the largest at McGill, with well over 9000 students, but we only have one assigned local wellness advisor,” he points out.  “Other faculties, including Law, with only 926 students, have two.”

Jarren has worked in advocacy for mental health at McGill since his first semester there, having given talks as a speaker to the Student Association of Mental Healthcare and having served on the events committee for Stronger Than Stigma.

“I hope to apply my experience advocating for mental health at McGill to this new [Senate] role, where I would have the capacity to make meaningful change for the student body,” he says.

SSMU is the representative of undergraduate students to the university administration. Elections to the senate are held every spring, in March or April.
