Delplace, Aitken families in ski marathon

Over the Feb. 13-14 weekend, the ski trails around Orford were filled with Gryphons, as members of the Delplace and Aitken families repeated their annual feat of competing in the Canadian Ski Marathon.

From the Delplace family, Oliver (Gr. 10), Alexis 2020 and father Marc ’81 completed their Gold Coureur de Bois at the Canadian Ski Marathon.

At the same time, Angus Aitken 2017 and his dad, Ian ’81, were also on the Orford trails winning their gold medals once again.

This year, for the first time, the marathon was a virtual event, with competitions being held at various locations between Feb. 6 and March 2.

In Orford, each competitor skied 100 km over two days in Orford Parc and slept under the stars on Saturday night.

“Oliver stopped his watch after 52 km,” says his father, Marc. “He skied it in three hours and 42 minutes!”
