Grade 4 Students connect with novel study through first-hand account of class parent's refugee experience

On May 26, the Grade 4 students had a special visit from classmate Logan’s Cheng’s mother Thyda Ouy. She shared her harrowing past experience as a refugee from Cambodia, and provided the boys with an amazing opportunity to make powerful, real-life connections to their class novel study, The Boy at the Back of the Class, by Onjali Q. Raúf. It was a privilege to hear her moving story, and her visit sparked curiosity and important questions about global issues, and what it means to be true to others and true to your world. –Ms. Scholefield, Grade 4 teacher
