Selwyn House School celebrates senior history teacher's prestigious award

Selwyn House School is pleased to announce that Senior School history teacher Mr. Pascal Bureau has been awarded the Governor General's History Awards for Excellence in Teaching - the most prestigious honour in the field of history in Canada. Mr. Bureau was nominated by Mme Marie-Eve Thériault, Senior Head of Social Studies, for his "engaging and experiential teaching methods that keep his students motivated and eager to learn."

The award ceremony took place on November 22, 2023, where Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary May Simon, Governor General of Canada, presented Mr. Bureau with the medal. The Canada’s History Society also presented the school with a $1000 cheque, which will be directed to Selwyn House School's Social Studies department.

During the ceremony, Mr. Bureau had the pleasure of meeting the Honourable Greg Fergus, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Selwyn House alumnus from the Class of 1986, as well as current Selwyn parent and Liberal MP Anna Gainey. The event was a proud moment for the school as it showcased the exceptional talents of Mr. Bureau and the high standard of education offered.

Mr. Bureau delivered a speech at a symposium, where he had the opportunity to share his ideas with various specialists from across the country.
