Pre-University Biology Students Explore Genetic Engineering at Concordia University

On April 30, to conclude their studies on genetic engineering and biotechnology, Pre-University Biology students visited the Clinical Analysis Suite at the Concordia University School of Health. Students toured with graduate students having the opportunity to observe cancerous cells in human blood under sterile conditions and learned how blood subcultures are done. They also learned about gene amplification using a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) system, before trying their hand at loading a gel for electrophoresis. A thank you to Concordia University School of Health for this enriching learning experience!  - Ms. Dalton, Pre-University biology teacher
