Old Boys' August Barbecue rekindles class spirit

The spirit of camaraderie shared by Selwyn House graduates is rarely more apparent than it is at the annual August Barbecue for recent classes. Catering to Old Boys from the five most recent graduation years, the August Barbecue is often the first time many of these young men have returned to the school since graduation.

The spirit of camaraderie shared by Selwyn House graduates is rarely more apparent than it is at the annual August Barbecue for recent classes. Catering to Old Boys from the five most recent graduation years, the August Barbecue is often the first time many of these young men have returned to the school since graduation.

The bond that is immediately rekindled among classmates as they greet one another demonstrates that a solid connection exists among all members the Selwyn House Old Boys’ Association, even though the younger ones sometimes have to be away from the school for a year or two before they realize it.

The turnout was good for the 2006 Barbecue on August 24. Classmates caught up on each other’s post-Selwyn activities, enjoyed some first-class burgers and salads prepared by Dave Teebenny, Steve Durant and the rest of the Selwyn House kitchen staff, toured the renovated Lucas Building, and listened to a few words of welcome from Headmaster Will Mitchell, Outgoing Old Boys’ Association President Fil Papich and Courtney Prieur, Director of Alumni Relations.

Once the connection to their alma mater is re-established, these young men generally become active participants in the brotherhood of Selwyn House Old Boys.
