Record turnout for August 23 Young Alum BBQ
This year, the barbecue was open to graduates from the Classes of 2002-2006.
Most of the group had registered, greeted their former classmates and were standing in line for hamburgers when a sudden cloudburst sent everyone scurrying into Coristine Hall, where the good times carried on uninterrupted.
Old Boys who had not been back to the school since the construction of the Speirs Building and the extensive renovations of the Lucas Building were given tours of the school’s new facilities.
Headmaster Will Mitchell gave the group an update on issues facing the school as he enters his final year as headmaster. He was pleased to announce that the Quebec Court of Appeal had only the day before ruled that Bill 104, which had severely limited students’ eligibility to attend English schools, had been ruled unconstitutional.
“This is going to be a big year,” Old Boys’ Association President Paul Mayer '74 told the young alums. In November, Selwyn House will embark on a year filled with activities and events to mark the school’s centennial.
Courtney Prieur, Director of Alumni Relations, announced that the Old Boys’ Association will be holding a reunion in London, England in March of 2008, with a planned visit to Selwyn College, Cambridge.
