Alumni Updates 2009-2010

The late Michael Dunn ’57 was recently the subject of an interesting story in The New Yorker magazine. When Michael died in 2007, he left more than $10M to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After having increased the family fortune through shrewd investments, Michael moved to Vermont in 1978, where he became involved in the community while living a quiet life as a collector or rare books, watches and duck decoys. With no fanfare, he bequeathed MOMA the largest donation the museum had ever received. To read the full story, go to http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2009/10/05/091005ta_talk_tomkins#ixzz0cQeLL2Ce

John Mulder ’88 writes: “Karen and I wanted to share some happy news with both Trafalgar and Selwyn House. We welcomed our third son, Nathan Christopher Mulder, to our family on September 8th, 2009. With three boys aged four and under, there is never a dull or quiet moment at our home! But, we’re having fun; especially with all the snow we’ve gotten recently—lots of skating, tobogganing and skiing!

I’ve attached our Christmas card picture with Ben, 4, Jay, 2, and baby Nate (two months). See photo above.

In January, Christopher Robinson 2000, was deployed to Haiti as part of the Canadian Military relief team. As he is a completely bilingual radio operator he will be used in this capacity to set up and maintain communications between the French and non-French teams from all over the world. He is part of the logistical team that was shipped out from Valcartier on January 17.

The December 1 issue of the McGill Tribune had high praise for the “even-handed and professional approach” of Ivan Neilson 2004, who was elected president of the Student Society of McGill University last June. “Neilson is also a gifted communicator…[who] speaks clearly and concisely,” said the Tribune.
