On January 21, senior students from Selwyn House School took elementary students from Westmount Park School for a skate at Westmount’s new recreational complex.
Selwyn House Parent Association Co-chair Karen Anderson, her husband, Tim, and Parent Association member Caroline Nicol made contact with Westmount Park School and coordinated with city to use the ice in the new Westmount Recreational Centre.
SHS students Liam Nicol and Cameron Anderson helped coordinate volunteers with Selwyn House Phys-Ed teacher Alfie Paoletti.
The project also got help from former Selwyn parent Matt O’Toole, Chief Marketing Officer at Reebok, who donated all the helmets and skates.
“The idea is to extend the use of the Westmount Recreation Centre to more people in Westmount and for Selwyn House students to give back to under-privileged kids,” explains Karen Anderson. “Many of these kids had never been on the ice before!”
The students will be holding these outings every Tuesday morning until March break.
