Obituary: Walter Palmer '38

It is with regret that we inform you of the passing of Walter Palmer, Class of '38.
 
Walter is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Pierrette Tetreault, his sister, Joan Becker, and his brother, Dr. Wilfred Palmer, Class of ‘44. He leaves behind his four children, Anne, Peter, Michel and Lynne, and his three grandchildren, Sean, Julian, and Benton.
 
Walter was the recipient of the Lucas Memorial Medal in his graduating year. The award is given ‘‘to the graduate who is deemed by the staff and his classmates to best represent the values of Selwyn House through academic success, good sportsmanship, superior effort, citizenship and leadership.’’ He also received the Prize for Good Order in 1936.
 
He was a member of several athletic teams at Selwyn, including the Skiing team from 1936 to 1938, the Senior Soccer team in 1938, the Senior Hockey team in 1938, and the Senior Cricket team from 1936 to 1938, which he captained in his graduating year.

1924 - 2022

Walter Palmer passed away in Greeneville, TN at age 98.

In World War II he was a Member of the Canadian Army Operational Research Group researching the ability of Radar to detect Weather Storms. In 1947 he obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from McGill University in Montreal.

Walter held Technical Management Positions in Textile Companies, Canadian Celanese in Montreal, BASF in Ottawa and Huyck's Formex Plant in Greeneville TN.

Dr. Palmer owned 8 Patents and was the Inventor of Melt Spun Cellulose Tri-aoetate Carpet Fibres.

He is preceded in death by his Wife of 53 Years, Pierrette Tetreault, his Sister Joan Becker, and his Brother Dr. Wilfred Palmer.

Walter is survived by 4 Children, Anne, Peter, Michel and Lynne Palmer; 3 Grandchildren, Sean and Julian Dennison, and Benton Palmer.

Walter Palmer enjoyed Sports, Skiing, Curling and Sailing in Canada. He played Golf and Tennis for 60 Years and was a Member of Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville.
