This month’s Employee Spotlight shines on Ms. Haneefa Corbie, our Middle School Science Department Head, for her continued leadership in equity education. In January, she was invited to guest lecture at McGill’s Graduate School Nursing Department in their Perspectives on Global Health class with a session titled “It Was Just a Joke: A Closer Look at Microaggressions.” Over the last few years, she has developed a variety of presentations for Selwyn House's Internal Conference days. Her expertise is showcased through an exploration of the following issues: bias, privilege, code switching, and the adultification of Black boys. These conferences have led to multiple speaking engagements, including a professional development day at Sacred Heart School and a guest lecture for the Honour Social Science program at John Abbott College, among others. Whether highlighting the importance of name pronunciation or fostering inclusive classroom discussions, Ms. Corbie continues to make a meaningful impact at Selwyn House and beyond.
