Juvenile Soccer Gryphons move to Finals

The Juvenile Soccer Team's semifinal matchup on Tuesday was against West Island College (WIC). WIC finished the regular season 3-1 and scored 19 goals in their 4 matches. Then they beat MacDonald high school 5-3 in the quarterfinals, so we knew that we were facing an opponent with a lot of offensive firepower.

Before the game started, we overheard one of the WIC players say: "How are we supposed to win, they have a mascot?". A few minutes later when 100 Selwyn fans poured out of buses and around the field, I think that we had the upper hand. Our game plan was to keep possession of the ball as much as possible to avoid giving WIC any offensive opportunities and we were successful in the first half of the game, which we tied 0-0.

In the second half, we opened up the game a little and got some scoring chances early. After 10 minutes, we scored a goal from inside the 10 yard box to go up 1-0. We kept control of the game for the following 10 minutes, scoring another goal to go up 2-0. In the final 10 minutes, WIC pressured our defense and scored a goal after a scrum in front of the net. WIC kept up the pressure and almost scored in the final minute, but our defense and goalkeeper held strong. With a 2-1 victory, we made it to Friday's final.
