Call of the Wild

Last spring, Demacio Amalfitano, his twin brother Blaise, and classmate Jack O’Keeffe (all now Gr. 6) organized a “Camouflage Free-Dress Day” as a fundraiser for the Ecomuseum Zoo, in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.

The Ecomuseum houses wild animals native to Quebec, many of which cannot be returned to the wild. The boys’ funds will sponsor three animals at the Zoo: the river otter, arctic fox and the gray wolf.

In return, on Sept. 4, the boys and their families were treated to an evening at the Ecomuseum, where they made food parcels and toys. For the wolves, for example, they wrapped fish and quail in leaves and sprayed it with citronella to attract the wolves.

Open since 1988, the Ecomuseum Zoo is the focal point for the education, research and conservation activities of the Natural History Society of the St. Lawrence Valley.
