Blanshay play wins 10 Tony Awards

Moulin Rouge! The Musical, a Broadway play co-produced by Selwyn House Old Boy Adam Blanshay ’98, won 10 Tony Awards at an in-person masked ceremony in New York on September 26.

The play, set in a turn-of-the-century Paris nightclub, won for best musical, best scenic design (musical), best costume design (musical), best lighting design (musical), best sound design (musical), best lead actor (musical), best featured actor (musical), best direction (musical), best choreography and best orchestration.

With a total of 14 nominations, Moulin Rouge! The Musical fell only two nominations short of the record set by Hamilton in 2016.

These were the first Tonys since 2019. Broadway plays are only now beginning to re-open since being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Founded in London in 2017, Adam Blanshay Productions has been involved in over sixty plays internationally, and has received eight Tony Awards, eight Olivier Awards, and one Helpmann Award. The company is reported to also have a Montreal project in the works.
