A Warm Welcome

On Monday, September 12, Selwyn House School held its first full-school assembly in three years. It was a wonderful feeling to have everyone in the same room again. Headmaster Michael Downey welcomed the students and staff and announced this school year’s theme…kindness. “In a world where you can be anything, be kind,” he said.

Head Prefect William Carvalho-Guertin introduced his fellow prefects: Deputy Head Prefect Lambros Papadopoulos; Community Prefects: Max Depatie and Nate Mitelman; Wellness Prefects: Yusuf Afif and Liborio Ciccarello; and Learning Prefects: James Downey and Yikai (Ken) Zhao

William then welcomed the Kindergarten students and reminisced about when he first started at Selwyn House. He noted that starting at a new school might be intimidating at first, but the school is one big family and students need not be shy to ask for help. He reminded everyone that the prefects were there to answer any questions. William reminded all of the students about the values of Veritas and wished them an enjoyable year ahead.

Headmaster Downey concluded the assembly by asking the Kindergarten students to stand and look towards the back of the room to where the Grade 11 students stood. He then asked the students to wave to one another, simultaneously showing the younger students where they are going and the seniors, how far they have come.
