First-time Debaters!

On May 3, Tycho Vesely (Grade 5) and Kai Mendell (Grade 4) attended their first debate tournament at ECS. This tournament was specifically for young beginner debaters. However, the prepared motion was rather complicated: “This House, as a feminist woman, would reject gendered practices and standards that she enjoys but are based on patriarchal norms such as: wearing makeup or allowing your date to pay for the meal.” Kai and Tycho worked for days after school with Selwyn Debate Coach Jonathan Bracewell to understand and prepare the motion on both the Proposition and Opposition sides.
