Senior School Students Shine in National Mathematics Competitions

On October 26, seven Grade 10 and 11 students, along with Ms. Sayegh, Senior School Mathematics Department Head, took part in the esteemed Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge, organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society. The competition, spanning two and a half hours, featured 12 long-answer questions (without calculator use). In January, top scorers were revealed, with Ian Y. clinching the top spot.

Additionally, on November 15, the University of Waterloo hosted the Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest, where 19 students from Mr. Brydges' Grade 10 math class competed. Selwyn emerged 4th in the province and 2nd in our zone! Five students ranked in the top 25% nationwide, earning them Certificates of Distinction. Congratulations to Ziye Z. for claiming the title of top scorer for the second consecutive year. Kudos to all who competed and put forth their best efforts!
