Obituary - Anthony Cassia ’11

We are saddened to share the passing of Anthony Cassia ’11 on February 17. Anthony joined Selwyn House in 2008 as a Grade 9 student and quickly became a cherished member of our school family.

A proud member of Lucas House, Anthony made his mark on the athletic field as both a football and rugby player. In his first year at SHS, his skill and dedication earned him the title of MVP Defense in Bantam Football. Off the field, Anthony was known for his infectious energy, humour, and ability to bring laughter to those around him. In his Grade 11 yearbook video, he described himself as a “class clown” and a “goofball,” a sentiment his classmates would undoubtedly affirm.

Following his time at Selwyn House, Anthony pursued studies in Pure & Applied Sciences at Marianopolis College. While his time with us was far too short, his legacy of laughter, kindness, and friendship will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Anthony’s family, friends, and to all in our community who cherished him. Please see his full obituary below.

He leaves to mourn his father Joseph, (deceased mother Monica), his sisters Kiarra and Bianca, his fiancée Alexia, as well as many other family members, cherished childhood friends, and numerous friends who will miss him deeply.

Anthony’s heart was pure & full of love, always giving and putting others before himself. He enjoyed joking, exploring, and traveling. During this difficult time, we find comfort in knowing that Anthony’s journey is not over; instead, he has moved on to a peaceful, eternal destination, embraced by God’s love. Anthony emphasized rejecting the idea of goodbyes, as he knew that his final destination was eternal, and that he will forever remain close to us.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that you consider making a donation to one of the following causes, each of which held a special place in Anthony’s heart.

Anthony, like his mother, had a deep passion for animals. Throughout his travels around the world, he encountered many helpless street dogs. He often expressed a strong desire to help them, even adopting a dog in the Dominican Republic that had been rescued by the organization mentioned below.
Anthony had previously requested that, for his birthday, donations be made to the Fibromyalgia Nation organization, a cause close to him due to his mother’s battle with the disease. You can donate by clicking the menus donate option in the link below.
Lastly, City Church was a community that supported Anthony during his life. He received countless prayers and ongoing support from Pastor Chris and the entire City Church team- these encounters left a lasting impact on him. Donations to the church will contribute to various projects that were meaningful to Anthony, including supporting the homeless, women’s shelters and providing aid & clothing to refugees.
