We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Alasdair Bruce Martin, Class of ’89.
Alasdair attended SHS from 1980 to 1989.
Alasdair was a dedicated and accomplished athlete whose commitment and sportsmanship left a lasting mark on Selwyn House. In middle school, he received the Cassils Memorial Cup. While playing Senior Football, Alasdair won the Bob Anderson Trophy for Most Valuable Lineman for two consecutive years and joined the Sportsman's Guild, a long-standing Selwyn tradition recognizing dedication and sportsmanship. In the 1990s, he also spent several years helping to coach the defence and the defensive line at SHS. In 2025, he honoured his late father, Jack Martin, who taught at Selwyn House School for over 30 years, by presenting the Curling Award at the Senior School Athletic Celebration, a heartfelt tribute to his father’s legacy and enduring contribution to Selwyn House.

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Alasdair Martin on Thursday March 5th, 2026 at the age of 55.
He will be sadly missed by his loving mother Margaret (Peggy), his loving children Euan and Gavin, his brother John and sister Iona, his nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Visitations will be held at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 7388, boul Viau on Sunday March 29th 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Alasdair was known for his vibrancy and personability, able to chat up anyone. He had a love of sports, particularly football; which he played for many years in high school, CEGEP, and University; but also skiing both water and alpine, baseball, hockey, and later in life tennis. He also loved fishing, he spent many summers fishing on the Ottawa river with his two boys.
Alasdair had an insatiable curiosity, this allowed him to connect with just about anyone; he was genuinely curious about the lives, interests, skills, values, and opinions of others. This lended itself to Alasdair amassing a substantial network of friends from all walks of life and corners of the world, by which he will be dearly missed.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Alasdair's life, sharing stories, and reminiscing about good times you had with him.
In lieu of sending flowers please consider a donation in memory of Alasdair to McGill Athletics: Football, each donation goes to support a program and team that was a significant part of Alasdair's life.
