SHS debaters place second and third at McGill Winter Bonanza
Gryphon debaters Charles Seitz and Yusuf Afif came in second and third, respectively, in the individual speaker category, junior division, at the McGill University Winter Bonanza Debating Tournament, held on Feb. 21 and 22.
“We sent four teams to the tournament,” says coach Dan Elbling. They were: Matthew Homa and Sasha Klein Charland (both Gr. 10), George Adamopoulos and Denis Dariotis (both Gr. 10), James Sabbagh and Oliver Lin (both Gr. 9), and Charles Seitz and Yusuf Afif (both Gr. 8). Dylan Lee (Gr. 10) also competed.
The team of Charles and Yusuf tied for fifth place with the team of George and Denis for fifth place, while Matthew and Sasha finished in fourth place and qualified for the final round, where they ended up losing a close split decision.
