What Does Flexible Seating Look Like?
Flexible Seating is up and running in the grade 5 classrooms this year. Yes, one can peek their head in the classroom when the class is empty to see the set up, but it is a very dynamic thing to see it in action. The boys have really made the classrooms their own. There was a discussion about making good seating choices. Some of the boys opt to sit at a desk most of the time and some of the boys like the unique chairs we have in the classes. The boys are also getting good at making little nooks in the class, personalized and comfortable for them. They are starting to learn how to share the spaces in the classroom and which spots they prefer for certain activities. Usually the boys are on the floor for reading time, but up at desks or using clipboards for written work. Since they do not have individualized desks the boys keep their stuff in drawers and bins around the room.
