The STEM gardens were started in April by the grade 5's and were harvested in September, when those same boys were in grade 6. In pairs, the boys designed garden beds and planted them in their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) class. They focused on measurement, variables, adaptability and working with one another. The class planted and harvested pumpkins, parsley, lettuce, cucumbers, corn, onions, garlic, heirloom carrots, tomatoes and wild flowers. They are working on passing on their green-thumb-knowledge to the new crop of grade 5's!
