Student newspaper preparing viral issue

By Jonah Rosen, editor-in-chief
The SHS News

For many years, Selwyn House School had a student-led newspaper called the SHS Weekly. It was printed on a regular basis and could be found on various benches around the school. In the past few years however, the newspaper, like many other print newspapers around the world, fell into steady decline, culminating in no issues being published this year.

It was then that we made the decision to start a new publication; The SHS News, which was published for the first time on March 30. Led by a team of three student editors, Nahshon Da Silva, Lucas Daviault-Campbell and me, and with Mr. Bill Bedard serving as faculty advisor, we are gearing up to publish our COVID-19 issue in early May.

Everyone in our community is invited to contribute, because we believe that providing a place for students to share their stories, concerns and experiences is an essential service. It is very important that we have a platform where different perspectives can be shared and where we can come together as a community, especially in these trying times of the coronavirus, when we really have to make a conscious effort to be together as a real community.

In a time where everyone is isolated, we hope the SHS News can be used to as a tool for people to come together to share and participate. If you are interested in getting involved, or if you have a suggestion or want us to publish anything you have written, please do not hesitate to contact us at shsnews@selwyn.ca.
