Grade 11 Math Students See Their Calculus Come to Fruition

Ms. Sayegh, Senior School Mathematics Department Head, demonstrated integral calculus complexity using fruit and vegetables, teaching students how to calculate irregular solid volumes using disk and washer methods. They traced fruit curves, modeled with functions, and calculated volumes by revolving tracings around the x-axis. Finally, they applied Archimedes' principle by dunking their produce in water to measure overflow. Thanks to the creativity of Ms. Egan, Senior School Science teacher, they had customized tubs for accurate measurements. It was a fun and educational lesson for all, ending with a healthy snack!
